Athletes Reach Peak Performance by Being Relaxed and Toned

You know the necessity of training hard for your sport - and hopefully you know the benefits of allowing your body to recover.

The Comfort Coach can greatly aid in that recovery, leaving you physically relaxed, mentally refreshed and ready to resume your training. Here are some examples:

• Find the zone where you flow

Bill Robbins is an avid runner who logs three to five miles a day. He has benefited from my Trager® sessions, which incorporate gentle, hands-on movements that relax one’s entire body. Here is what Bill wrote about his Trager experience:

“I’ve been running for 14 years and had no idea was I holding my upper body stiffly - until Anne pointed it out. With her help, I was able to add much more movement to my upper body by relaxing those muscles. My arms now feel like jellyfish as I race around the track. This upper-body fluidity transfers additional energy to my legs, and I run faster and with more power than ever before.”

• Improve your balance and feel looser

Another client of mine, Nancy Cassel, a competitive runner, states, “I feel more free and balanced in my running after experiencing Trager.  This has been especially evident when running in snowy conditions in which I used to tense and brace myself to prevent the possibility of a slip or fall.  My increased sense of balance makes me realize I can remain relaxed and regain my balance easily should I encounter slippery conditions.”

Nancy used to get a weekly massage, but she has experienced more dramatic results with Trager. She was so inspired that she is now working toward becoming a Trager practitioner herself.

• Recover faster and avoid burn-out

Trager sessions also have helped athletes who have overdone training get back in their game.

John Pearcy, president of the Greater Austin (Texas) Track Club, said: “The advantage of Trager is that the athlete can stay more limber and thus freer of muscle damage.”

• Improve your yoga practice

Enhance your yoga experience by becoming more aware of your body, and improve your mind/body connection through Trager. Find out how to let go and allow your muscles to lengthen more easily than stretching them.

• Train smarter

One important goal of movement education offered by Trager is to promote efficient muscle use so that energy is not expended on anything but that which is necessary for the performance.

Nancy Cassel states, “I’ve become much more aware of unnecessarily using muscles when exercising, such as tensing my feet, legs and facial muscles.  Noticing these unnecessary movements has helped me relax and focus on the muscles being worked.”

The simple self-care movements the Comfort Coach teaches can be applied at home, work or while training. Every Trager session is customized to your specific needs on a particular day

• Feel lighter and increase your self-confidence

In the words of another runner who has integrated Trager into his practice, “I felt like I could fly!”

• Bikers, dancers, gymnasts and other athletes benefit as well
Kathy Cass, a dance therapist and Trager client said, “I have found that the gentle hands-on techniques of Trager create a sense of openness and centeredness enabling me to explore and revitalize the connection between body, mind and spirit.”
